No one will tell you this about yoga, there is endless beauty to be found in the practice.
It is the kind of gift that keeps giving, with no end in sight. No one will tell you this about yoga practice, then all of a sudden you realise – you’re on a mind blowing journey.
As a result I’m sharing 7 mind blowing facts about ashtanga vinyasa yoga, however this is all according to my own personal practice and experience.
Note: I am referring to ashtanga vinyasa yoga (yoga).
1. No one will tell you about the practice of healing
Yoga has an entire primary series of postures to start the practice and it’s the healing practice.
I am working on the primary series and I feel it working on me, no one can really tell me about it, I needed to feel it for myself.
That’s a big warm welcoming yoga hug right there.
2. No one will tell you about the mind and dis-ease
The mind is a tool. Yoga teaches us about the mind, and how to work with the mind tool.
The state of my mind can hold me captive, like mud, I get stuck. I feel it.
I could have all the knowledge in the world, but what is it all for if I don’t use it or act on it? No amount of knowledge ever helped anyone who didn’t act.
So all things considered dis-ease in the body mind; mental pain and or physical discomfort, become a teacher. You could say a stick, that hits a person into action. Unfortunately no one can tell you why change is needed, you feel it. I can feel it.
I’m a fan of the old adage, out of site out of mind. If pain isn’t in my sites or on my radar, better life choices may not be front of mind.
Where does the motivation for change come from? From your experience, all things considered, change and healing starts with the mind.
3. No one will tell you the ideal age and body type for yoga
Another key point, there is no restriction on body type and age. If there is no limit to whether you are young, old, skinny, fat, stiff, flexible then there is absolutely a yoga practice to be created and developed.
You can create a practice that is unique to you and no one can tell you that. You have to experience it.
Over time the practice will mould to you, suit your needs. Hence yoga practices have something to offer anyone and everyone.
Indeed the old adage… move it or lose it, or rather don’t move and suffer the consequences, is also interesting. Conversely, middle age aches and pains may be a cry for help. I’ve reached middle age and things are definitely changing and as I alluded to, yoga practice can also assist this process of change.
It is one hundred percent up to you to do what you can with what you have got, and no one will tell you this about yoga practice.
4. No one will tell you a little practice is better than no practice
Keep it simple… KISS, because when we suffer (for whatever reason and there are endless reasons) it can be difficult to make a change or take action.
You need to be kind to be gentle to yourself and take it slow. What does that mean? You need to feel and experience it for yourself.
So in times of stress the hero move here is to act, even in the smallest of ways. A little effort to turn 180 and act, is courageous.
Do not overthink it. Do not judge. Act by choosing one, simple, action and do it every day, because continuous action in a yoga practice, is king. But no will tell you that.
5. No one will tell you yoga goes hand in hand with Ayurveda
Ayurveda means science of life, it is unique because it is the true holistic healing modality. It encompasses healing of the body, mind and spirit perspective.
As an example, what we consume on a daily basis has effects. When I say consume I mean intake via our senses. Not just diet and food, but the things, people, environments we live in. The body mind is aware of what we consume and this will impact our experience depending. There are far reaching consequences of consumption. Ayurveda, is the holistic healing modality, a partner to yoga and the healing experience.
I suggest you feel or experience it for yourself, as words can’t explain. Contact a professional Ayurveda practitioner for more further information.
6. No one will tell you yoga is a philosophy
Philosophy is essentially a way of seeing, a view of the world within and without. Yoga is one of seven indian philosophies, it is extremely interesting to explore the concepts and relate them to one’s own unique experience. Again you should feel it for yourself.

7. No one will tell you yoga is a dance with the breath
Yes the beauty of life can indeed be felt and experienced through ashtanga vinyasa yoga. A dance with the breath using the body placement (asana). Something unique to ashtanga vinyasa yoga and it’s of course, something no one can tell you.
You must experience it for your self, your little s – self.
Deep down…
No one will tell you this about yoga practice, as a matter of fact you will come across many hidden gems in the practice that need to be experienced to be believed. It’s not up to anyone to ‘tell’ you anything. It is there for you to experience for yourself. You do the work, you let it happen for you.
